INFORMATION
Rivers to the Sea is a balanced mix of a multisport and sailing adventure, offering the best of what Croatia has to offer.
The first half of this sailing adventure in Croatia is based in the small, picturesque town of Skradin. Skradin is famous for its vicinity to numerous attractive locations such as the Krka River National Park, Velebit Nature Park, and the Sibenik archipelago. Each day’s activity takes us on an adventure in one of those locations where you can enjoy an active holiday of kayaking, cycling, hiking, and sightseeing. With its laid-back atmosphere, authentic architecture, and preserved stone core Skradin is in itself an attractive location to discover and enjoy in your free time.
Sailing adventure in Croatia
In the second part of the Rivers to the Sea tour, we remain active while having plenty of time for leisure and the joys of the sea, sun, and sailing. Characterised by peacefulness and incredible beauty the Sibenik archipelago and the Kornati National Park are among the most popular sailing destinations in Croatia. If you like being active, enjoy kayaking to hidden beaches and coves, or just stick by the boat snorkelling, SUP, and swimming. Keep an eye out for friendly dolphins, tuna, and sea turtles which occasionally escort us while we sail. In the evenings we dock or anchor in quiet bays where we visit traditional taverns with exquisite local food.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 – Arrival to the Destination – Skradin
Upon your arrival in Croatia, we will transfer you to Skradin and accommodate you in the Skradinski Buk hotel. After settling into your room, get ready for a welcome dinner with your guide and an introduction to the week’s itinerary. After dinner, you are free to enjoy an evening walk around Skradin.
Accommodation: hotel; Van drive from airport: Split 1h:30 min or Zadar 45 min
DAY 2 – Trekking Paklenica National Park
If there was ever a morning worth getting up early, this is that morning. Our small expedition leads us into the most famous national park in Croatia for trekking and rock climbing. It covers the area of torrent flows of Velika and Mala Paklenica. Their distinctive canyons are carved vertically into the southern slopes of Velebit. This relatively small area has an abundance of exceptional diversity.
The historical fact is that many people stayed in mountain residences, which reflects in the ruins of numerous sacral buildings. Mountain residence often interacts with nature, doing anything from climbing a rock wall to navigating across a mountain or an entire mountain range.
Accommodation: hotel; Trekking 4-5 hours; Van transfer: 1h:20 min one way
DAY 3 – River kayaking down Zrmanja river
We spend the day exploring the canyons of the Zrmanja and Krupa rivers – true gems of the Velebit nature park. We kayak down the Zrmanja river and enjoy the crystal-clear waters and a bounty of local flora and fauna.
About mid-way down the river we take a detour into the Krupa river and stop in a beautiful secret location. Here we rest, eat our snacks, and have a swimming break. We continue down the exciting second part of the river, going through multiple rapids and an occasional waterfall.
Accommodation: hotel; Kayaking 4-5 h; Van transfer: 1h one way
DAY 4 – Cycling around the Skradin area and Krka National park walking tour
There is no better way to discover the area around Skradin than by cycling. The route takes us through the surrounding nature and villages rich with history. Our first stop is lake Visovac where a small boat takes us to the Franciscan monastery situated on an islet in the middle of the lake. Visit the monastery and take a walk through the beautiful park kept by monks.
Once back on the mainland, enjoy a swim in the lake and cycle back to Skradin for a lunch break. In the afternoon we hop back on our bikes and cycle to the heart of the Krka national park where we take a walking tour through a beautiful landscape full of natural and cultural wonders.
Accommodation: hotel; Cycling 4-5 hours
DAY 5 – Boarding the boat and sailing to Kaprije
As we will be visiting remote islands, some of which may not have working shops or cash machines, the day begins with preparations for the sailing tour. You are advised to buy 3 days-worth of picnic-style lunches to take with you, as well as spending money.
We sail out to Prvic Island for an inspirational walk around this tiny island with no cars. We sail further on towards Kaprije Island for the night and anchor in one of the beautiful bays for a swim and dinner in one of the best taverns in the area.
Accommodation: Catamaran
DAY 6 – Sailing through the Kornati National Park, kayaking, and hiking
We sail to Kornati National Park where we explore its many islands, islets, and reefs. For a more close-up experience of the sea and its wildlife, we leave our boat and kayak through the places we want to explore further. Using a smaller vessel, we can access all the beautiful and secluded beaches and coves otherwise inaccessible by boat.
In the afternoon we anchor in a bay of Smokvica Island for dinner and a hike to the top of the island where we have a magnificent view of the sunset over the archipelago. We finish off the evening with dinner in a wonderful local tavern.
Accommodation: Catamaran
DAY 7 – Sailing to Zlarin
Our island hopping and sailing adventure continues and we spend the first part of the day sailing towards Zirje Island. We swim, SUP, and snorkel in great locations, and in the late afternoon, we sail on towards Zlarin Island where we anchor in a quiet bay for the night. Spend a pleasant evening walking in the serene ambiance of the village, tasting local food and wine.
Accommodation: Catamaran
DAY 8 – Return to Skradin and departure
We leave Zlarin Island early in the morning and return to Skradin where we say our goodbyes.
If you decide to spend more time in Croatia, our guides will be happy to recommend other beautiful places to visit – especially those you won’t find in tourist guidebooks.
Van drive to airport: Split 1:30 min, or Zadar 45 min
